Wondered about the heading, ya thats almost getting true. Mouse had ruled the input devices since it had been invented 40 years ago. Mouse had made our interaction with the computer lot more easier and had been bundled along with every desktop PC’s. But now its hard time for the mouse to regain those premium positions as lot of other devices are gaining its momentum to hit the mouse status for the next decade.
Touchscreens, gesture based interfaces and facial recognition systems would soon replace the oldie mouse predicts the Gartner Analyst. But I dont know how far is all these gonna catch up with the millions of exisiting desktops in the world.
Analyst Steve Prentice says that while the “mouse works fine in the desktop environment for home entertainment or working on a notebook, it’s over.”
Whereas the Gartner analysts points that the popularity of the gesture based Wiimote, the iPhone Touch Screen UI and tilt screen accelerometers are a clean cut evidence of the mouses being thrown into their backyards. But the status of keyboard, which enjoys the undisputed monopoly of the most basic inputting device.
So its a great idea to preserve your pretty old mouse before you throw out as it could be once an antique or show it off to your children who play around with the wiimotes.

It will be interesting if the mouse goes away. I’m so used to it now that it’s hard to imagine not having one to use.
