USB drives are the most popular means of data transportation. USB drives ranges from 128MB to 32GB and even more. As the USB penetration has increased, many companies had banned the use of USB drives in their system as there could be a treat to the company data as they could be easily moved out of the company via these USB drives. So here is a method to disable writing on to USB drives in Windows XP SP2. Here are the following steps.
Step1:Click Start button and select Run, type “Regedit“ and click OK.
Note: The User should have administrative rights.
Step2: In Regedit go to the location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control.
Step3: On the right side panel, click right to create a key with the name “StorageDevicePolicies“.

Step4: On the left side panel, select “StorageDevicePolicies” key, again right click to create new DWORD value then label it “WriteProtect“.

Step5: Set its value to “1“. To enable the USB Drive writing set this option to values “0“.

Step6: Close the Regedit and restart the PC.
