The most annoying thing in Windows XP is the tray notification, every time I boot the computer I get a message that your Automatic Updates is disabled. I don’t think anybody would like to sell of your bandwidth to the Updates so am I. Here we will see how we can disable the tray notification in Windows XP or disabling the Automatic Update Notification in the tray.
How To Disable Automatic Update Notification in Windows XP?
Step1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
Step2. Double-click Security Center.
Step3. In the Security Center, under Resources,click Change the way Security Center alerts me.
Step4. In the Alert Settings dialog box, uncheck the Automatic Updates check box click OK.

Thanks for all my reader for pointing out the error in the following trick.But I assure you the above one works.
Initially you have to disable Automatic Updates before disabling the notification Click Here
Step1: Click Start and select Run.
Step2: Type “Regedit†and click OK.
Step3: Locate HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced
Step4: At the right hand side create a new DWORD named “EnableBalloonTips†and set the value as 0
You can enable the notification by changing the value to 1.
